Delaware’s largest energy provider, Delmarva Power, says a recently approved interim rate shorts the company on what it’s legally allowed to recover from customers.

Delaware’s Public Service Commission will weigh nearly two hours of public comment on Delmarva Power’s latest rate increase request, for more than $67 million.

"This is definitely not business as usual," Delmarva’s Regional President Marcus Beale said about the increase his customers will see to the supply-side of their bills.

The General Assembly's new, stricter standards on what expenses a utility can shift onto customers will apply to the $67.8 million base rate increase Delmarva requested in December.

"Delmarva's shareholders – Exelon their parent company– primarily out of state shareholders, are making an awful lot of money on the backs of Delaware working families," Meyer said.
