Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States. In an effort to tackle that in Sussex County, Beebe Healthcare in Lewes has announced a new online assessment that will help patients determine their level of risk.
Kelly Griffin a spokesperson for Beebe Healthcare, says the online assessment is part of an effort to make Sussex County one of the healthiest counties in the nation. As of right now, Sussex County has the highest rate of adult obesity in the first state, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
Griffin says people should have their health information handy while answering questions to get the most accurate results.
"It’s ideal if they have... their recent blood pressure, lab results for their cholesterol numbers and weight information before they start," she says.
After they finish, participants receive a full report, including their 10-year and 30-year heart disease risk. From there, participants can work with a primary care physician to improve their heart health.
Care for Good offers health insurance to nonprofits with 10 employees or more. Nonprofits with fewer than 10 employees can turn to Angle Health to access similar resources.
