Two newcomers win seats on Sussex County Council

Sussex County Council is set to welcome two newcomers following Tuesday’s primary.

In District 2, current Register of Wills Cindy Green emerged as the top vote-getter for retiring Councilman Sam Wilson’s seat; she got 1,431 votes.

Wilson’s son Robert came in second with 1,150 votes, followed by Lisa Hudson Briggs with 1,086 votes.

In District 3 - Mark Schaeffer narrowly edged out one-term incumbent I.G. Burton with 3,164 votes to 3,120 votes.

Green and Schaeffer will take their seats on the Council in January.

And since Green had two years remaining on her Register of Wills term, The Governor will have to appoint someone to finish it.

Green becomes only the second woman to win a seat on the Sussex County Council; Joan Deaver was the first. She represented District 3 and served from 2008 to 2016.
