Police investigate report of shots fired at Christiana Mall

Holiday shoppers were forced to evacuate Christiana Mall Friday night.

Delaware State Police says it received reports of shots fired at the mall shortly before 9 p.m.

The mall was evacuated and traffic around the facility was diverted.

But at a news conference at the mall Friday night, State Police said there is “no evidence of an actual shooting” and no injuries reported.

“We’re not ruling anything out at this time,” said a State Police spokesman.  “All we know right now is there was a report of something that sounded like gun shots.”

He added as of 10:45 p.m. police were still physically securing the building and the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic is being diverted from the area.  Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes of travel.  State Police do note that a reunification location set up in the Costco parking lot located ajacent to the mall.  The ramps leading to Costco have been re-opened at this time to allow people to access the reunification area and connect with people that were evacuated.

There’s no indication yet if Christiana Mall will open as usual tomorrow, just days before Christmas.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Troop 2 at 302-834-2620.
