$10 million in grants are now available for New Castle County organizations fighting healthcare disparities caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The county is using its CARES Act funding to create a fund to help equity innovators who are trying to address life altering health projects.

“It’s a symptom of a larger problem and that problem is health inequity. That there are gaps in our health system, there are individuals and families and communities that don't have equal access to healthcare.”
New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer says communities of color are underserved by the current healthcare system, leaving them more vulnerable to coronavirus and resulting fatalities.
In response, the county is making a total of $10 million available to organizations providing resources and services and fighting for these communities.
“That fund is open to help equity innovators who are already doing work across our county so they are not short on resources when they are trying to address these life altering health projects.”
Meyer adds the funding will be given based on proposals submitted, what organizations can use it best and which communities are most affected.
Meyer hopes the first round of checks are sent out by the end of September.
