A custom manufacturer of shade sails, covers, seatings and awnings is coming to Central Delaware, bringing 16 jobs to the area.
Shore Industries, currently headquartered in Denton, Maryland is moving to the Dover area.
“It’s a critical piece of the puzzle that we need here in Kent County,” said Kent County Levy Court commissioner Allan Angel.
He says many manufacturers left Kent County, and Central Delaware is just now starting to bring them back. Shore Industries is the fifth manufacturer to locate in the Dover area since the start of 2020.
Kent Economic Partnership executive director Linda Parkowski says its a result of coming up with a plan to target small-to-medium sized manufacturing firms that Dover has the components to attract.
“It just goes to show you that the Rockport Study (Rockport Economic Analysis Study) of 2018 was correct," said Parkowski. "And if you follow the data - it leads you down the right path.”
Parkowski notes Shore Industries is the kind of small-to-medium manufacturer that the Rockport Study recommends Central Delaware target. The report says the area’s demographics and workforce training programs are a good fit for those companies.
She says Kent County began leasing the former Monster Mile Racing Building in the Dover Aero Park to Shore Industries and its subsidiary, Porch Enclosures, earlier this month. That lease runs one year with an option to extend or buy.
