Federal grant funds housing for 15 women with HIV/AIDS in Wilmington

A facility in Wilmington that provides housing for women living with HIV or AIDS will continue to operate, thanks to a federal grant.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $757,211 to the Delaware HIV Consortium this week. The grant will provide enough money for 15 women with HIV or AIDS and their families to live at a housing facility in Wilmington for three years.

The facility also provides an array of services, according to Dianne Casey, director of housing programs for the consortium.

"Employment readiness and substance use and opioid dependency and that sort of thing,” she said.

Connections Community Support Services provides these services at the facility. It also provides the residents with caseworkers.

The grant is provided through HUD's Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program. It has funded the housing facility in Wilmington for the past 15 years.

The wellness and supportive services are funded through community-based providers.
