The Delaware Sustainable Chemistry Alliance’s (DESCA) board chair wrote an op-ed a year ago - urging First State residents to imagine Delaware as a leader in the chemtech industry.
The Alliance tries to move that idea close to reality next week with a conference in Wilmington. It hopes the event becomes an annual affair that positions the First State as a ChemTech Hub.
“So what’s happening now is - we have this great science landscape, technology; we have chemical materials, we have ag, biochemistry - all of this exists in Delaware. And this landscape is slowly changing,” said Delaware Sustainable Chemistry Alliance executive director Dora Cheatham.
She says the inaugural ChemTech Conference at the Chase Center on the Riverfront on February 19 and 20, 2020, will bring all of these industries together to discuss the challenges and opportunities of that changing landscape in the digital era.
Cheatham says one of the biggest topics on the agenda is Digital Technologies and Operational Excellence in Manufacturing & Supply Chain.
“What we’re talking about….we’re covering Digital Technologies and Process Improvement," said Cheatham. "So for example, you have this huge manufacturing plant - how can you change - how can you use technologies in this plant to change the way that you operate things.”
Cheatham notes that many Delaware companies, including DuPont, Chemours and Perdue Farms, are attending.
