Project SEARCH is looking for new applicants.

Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) hosts an open house for Project SEARCH this week.

DelDOT is looking for Project SEARCH applicants for 2019 - 2020.

“Project SEARCH is a one-year internship program for students with disabilities who have completed their graduations requirements. DelDOT is actually the first state agency that has partnered with the Project SEARCH programs and it’s run out of the Caesar Rodney School District,” said DelDOT communications director C.R. McLeod.

Henotes the program - now in its second year - is targeted for students seeking competitive employment and have had some non-paid job training experiences.

“Throughout the school year interns participate in really learning jobs skills throughout the Department. And it’s been a great success throughout its first year. We graduated just close to a dozen students last year. And what we’re really excited about is, that we even we hired some of those graduates into DelDOT who are working with us on a daily basis,” McLeod said.

He says throughout the school year, interns participate in a functional, academic curriculum that stresses employment and independent-living skills.

The Project SEARCH Open House is this Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the DelDOT Administrative Building in Dover.
