Community spread indicated as confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to 45 in Delaware

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware’s number of COVID-19 cases hit 45 Saturday afternoon.

That includes several new cases in New Castle County, which now has 32 cases to date.

Kent County has a total of five cases and Sussex has eight.

The Division of Public Health said that the ages those with confirmed cases as of Saturday afternoon ranged from 14 to 80 and the cases involved 24 men and 21 women.

At least five individuals are hospitalized and two are critically ill.

DPH also notes that the source of exposure for many of these positive cases is unknown, indicating community spread of the virus is occurring in Delaware.

The state is poised to open testing sites in Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Millsboro, Frankford and Seaford Monday - operated by various hospitals - to help test people with symptoms of COVID-19 for free.

Patients need a prescription to be tested. Those with a medical provider will need to be evaluated by their provider first, preferably over the phone.
