Ajoyo World Music is coming to Delaware for only the second time in its six years of performing.

Christina Cultural Arts Center hosts AjoyoWorld Music this weekend in Wilmington, as it opens its annual concert series:

Ajoyo is made up of six musicians from all over the world, ranging from Massachusetts and New Jersey to Amsterdam. The group is headed by French-Tunisian saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Yacine Boulares.

And Boulares promises a unique blend of styles.

“The grooves and the rhythms we bring from West Africa and from North Africa mixed with jazz, will make people want to dance for sure," said Boulares. "And then I think we welcome people with an open mind because a lot of what we talk about in our songs is not just party - it’s socially conscious.”

This is only Ajoyo's second performance in the First State, and Boulares hopes to make an impression on the audience.

"First of all, I think they will hear music that they have never heard before but that sounds very familiar. Because to me that’s the key to peoples’ hearts - familiarity. And they’ll also hear something unexpected. The second thing is that I think they’re going to wear their dancing shoes - so to speak,” said Boulares.

Tickets to this Saturday’s performance of Ajoyo World Music at the Christina Cultural Arts Center are $23 and can be purchased here. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. You can also listen to Ajoyo live in concert here.
