State Labor Secretary Patrice Gilliam Johnson is resigning to join Delaware State University.
She's the school’s new dean of Graduate, Adult and Continuing Studies.
Gilliam Johnson was a holdover from former Gov. Jack Markell’s administration. She was appointed in early 2016 and confirmed by the state Senate. However, Gov. John Carney delayed naming a Labor secretary after taking office last year.
Gilliam Johnson was appointed amid allegations of racial discrimination and entrenched cronyism at the Labor Department. She’s been working with a consultant to investigate racism allegations.
In a statement, Carney said he was planning to reappoint her as Labor secretary this year - and he thanked her for her service.
Prior to leading the state Labor Department, Gilliam Johnson spent 12 years at Wilmington University, including a stint as chair of its Psychology Program
