Sen. Coons votes 'no' on Haley confirmation

Delaware Public Media

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) is rejecting a third presidential cabinet pick.

President Trump’s pick for ambassador to the United Nations is the latest nominee to get a ‘no’ from Delaware’s junior senator.

Coons said in a statement that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley didn’t convince him she understood America’s foreign policy principles well enough to be effective in the UN.

Coons’ rejection of Haley comes one day after he voted against Rex Tillerson’s nomination to be Secretary of State.

Despite a lack of support from Coons, both cabinet picks cleared committee and are headed to a full Senate confirmation vote.

The Foreign Relations Committee has yet to vote on Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions.

But Coons says he’ll vote ‘no’ when that happens.
