Governor-elect Carney starts building his staff

Governor-elect John Carney is wasting no time in beginning to assemble his staff.

Less than 24 hours after being elected, Carney has named Doug Gramiak his Chief of Staff.

Gramiak also served as Carney’s chief of staff when Carney was Lt. Gov, from 2001 to 2009.

“Being chief of staff may be the hardest job in state government, and it's certainly one of the most important.  I’m excited that Doug has agreed to take on this critical role in my administration.  He brings both the political and policy skills we need to put into action our plans to create jobs and improve our schools.  And he’ll be a real asset in working with the legislature as we move quickly to address our state's budget challenges,” Carney said in a statement.

Carney has also tapped Sheila Grant to be hisDeputy Chief of Staff.  Grant is currently Chief of Staff in the governor-elect’s Congressional Office in Washington DC.

"Sheila is one of my most trusted advisers.  As my chief of staff in Washington, Sheila has been involved in the most important challenges facing our state.  I couldn’t be happier that she has agreed to come back to Delaware to serve as deputy chief of staff," said Carney in a statement.  "Sheila has an incredible ability to handle tough issues and get things done.  She will be able to make a huge contribution in her new role as we prepare to hit the ground running in January.”

Carney’s team also plans to launch a transition website Friday where it will accept resumes for positions in the new administration.
