Rep. Peterman declines to run for 4th term

Milford area Republican Rep. Jack Peterman will not seek reelection this fall as he recovers from prostate cancer according to a letter sent to district residents.

Peterman has suffered from health problems in recent years that saw him miss much of the past two legislative sessions and continue to sideline him.

He revealed he had prostate cancer earlier this month and already had the tumor removed. Peterman has undergone multiple spinal surgeries to relieve pinched nerves as well.

"When we get up in the morning, our backs don't always respond the same way as when we were young," Peterman wrote in the letter, noting that he still has limited mobility that leaves him in a wheelchair.

Scott will face two others: Charles Postals Jr., who lost to Peterman in the 2014 primary, and Morgan Hudson.

Peterman previously served as president of Kent County Levy Court and is a retired farmer. He intends to serve out his term, though won’t be present in the General Assembly as he recovers.
