Indian River School District seeking candidates for Citizens Budget Oversight Committee

Delaware Public Media

The Indian River School District is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee.

The Indian River School District needs to fill a vacancy on the body that provides financial oversight for the district, says Dave Maull, the District’s spokesman.

“The CBOC or the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee is a committee that consists of 10 community members. We have five elections districts within the Indian River School District and ...  to make sure that we have equal representation across the school district, we’ve taken two community members from each of the election districts,” Maull said.

Maull says they’re looking for someone who lives in Election District 4, which encompasses all of the beach resort areas from the Maryland line north to the Indian River Inlet in Delaware.

Chris White had held the seat but moved out of the area with his family.

Maull says the Committee was established in June 2017; members meet quarterly with District Superintendent Mark Steele and the director of finance to go over the District’s budget and financial statements.

Residents interested in filling the committee vacancy for District 4 must submit the following by September 4, 2018:

·         A letter of interest stating their reason for wanting to serve.

·         A Citizens Budget Oversight Committee membership application (available at here).

·         A resume listing their experience and qualifications for serving.

·         References that can attest to their educational/financial knowledge and/or community involvement.

Documents should be sent to Superintendent Mark Steele, Indian River School District, 31 Hosier Street, Selbyville, DE 19975.

The term length for Committee members is a minimum of two years with an option to continue serving at the discretion of the Indian River Board of Education.
