Hurricane Laura is working its way inland after slamming the Gulf Coast, and what's left of the storm is expected to eventually reach the First State later this week.
"The rain is going to be the big story with this and luckily it's a pretty quick moving system, so we're not concerned about any really stalling out over the area or anything like that," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Jonathan O’Brien.
O'Brien notes that rain may be heavy this weekend, but that should be all the remnants of Laura have left by the time they hit Delaware.
"Rain is a very good bet," said O'Brien. "Wind we're not too concerned about at this point, but the kind of forecast idea is that Laura now it is inland over the South and it's going to make its way northeast toward our region."
O’Brien offers a timeline for the rain that will cover the entire state.
"At this point, Saturday looks like a pretty rainy day across the area probably even starting Friday night. And through much of the day on Saturday, it looks like we're going to see a round of steady potentially heavy rain over Delaware possibly winding down late Saturday afternoon especially by Saturday evening," said O'Brien.
He adds flooding isn’t a big concern except in poor drainage areas, though there could be some puddling on roads from the heavy rain.
