Heat to break late in the week

Delaware Public Media

Air conditioners up and down the First State struggled to keep people cool over the weekend as the heat index rose well into the triple digits. But the National Weather Service says relief could be on the way.

After enduring heat indexes that topped out around 106 this weekend, National Weather Service Program Leader James Bunker said temperatures could drop later in the week.

"“All in all it should be a little bit cooler but still slightly above normal for this time of year," said Bunker. It looks like temps are still going to be slightly above normal. We’re looking at the upper 80s Thursday, as well as Friday,"

Although the humidity will be down this first part of the week, temperatures could still hit the middle 90s with heat indexes above 100.

Temperatures in the middle 80s are typical for August, Bunker said.
