Delaware expected to receive moderate snowfall

Delaware Public Media

Though Delaware is nearing the end of its mild winter, another shot of snowy weather is on its way.

The snow will start to fall around midnight tonight.

James Bunker from the National Weather Service station in Mount Holly, New Jersey says more snow is likely the further south you go.

“Right now, storm totals around Delmarva, looking 1.4 inches down to Southern Delaware, looking about 2 or 2 and a half inches," said Bunker.

The snow is a result of a storm system that’s centered in the Kentucky and Tennessee, and is moving northeast. Precipitation is expected to taper off by late afternoon Friday.

“The biggest impact is going to be for folks traveling in the morning commute. They should take extra time when they take off in the morning," said Bunker.

In preparation for the snow, DelDOT began deploying crews yesterday to pre-treat all roads and bridges with brine to minimize accumulation. They’ll decide what crews they need to bring in to handle the wintry weather overnight later today.

The state could see some additional snow showers this weekend, but next week temperatures will be more spring-like, rising into the 60s by Tuesday.
