First State saw increase in Thanksgiving weekend traffic

It was a busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend on First State roadways.

DelDOT says over 1.1 million cars passed through the state’s toll plazas along I-95 and Route 1 between Wednesday and Sunday.

That was up 22 percent from a year ago when nearly 945 thousand cars were counted during the same five-day period.

The biggest increases came at the Route 1 toll plazas at Biddle’s Corner and Dover, which saw 40 percent spike in traffic over last year.

DelDOT estimates it collected over 3 million dollars in tolls over the holiday weekend.
