Blue Rocks lose title series opener in extra innings

The Blue Rocks come short in Game 1 of the Mills Cup Carolina League Championship series.

The Rocks fell to Myrtle Beach 3-2 in 10 innings Sunday at Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings, but the Pelicans answered in the top of the 10th. inning.  Victor Caratini’s RBI single drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run.

The Blue Rocks and Myrtle Beach face-off in Game 2 of the best of five series Monday night at Frawley Stadium.  First pitch is at 6:35 pm.

Wilmington is looking for its fifth Carolina League title, but first since 1999.

Myrtle Beach is in the Mills Cup final for a second straight year – but hasn’t won the league crown since 2000.
