Blue Rocks lose title series opener in extra innings

The Blue Rocks come short in Game 1 of the Mills Cup Carolina League Championship series.

The Rocks fell to Myrtle Beach 3-2 in 10 innings Sunday at Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings, but the Pelicans answered in the top of the 10^th. inning. Victor Caratini’s RBI single drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run.

The Blue Rocks and Myrtle Beach face-off in Game 2 of the best of five series Monday night at Frawley Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.

Wilmington is looking for its fifth Carolina League title, but first since 1999.

Myrtle Beach is in the Mills Cup final for a second straight year – but hasn’t won the league crown since 2000.
