Gas prices up slightly over past week in Delaware

Delaware Public Media

Gas prices in the First State rose over the past week, but not by much.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in First State rose 1 cent from $2.66 to $2.67 in the past week. Motorists in Delaware are paying nearly a dollar less than when the state’s average stood at $3.58. That reflects a trend felt among many other parts of the country.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.59 or slightly less up and down the state.

Delaware drivers are paying 10 cents below the national average, which inched up one cent to $2.77 since last week.

According to Triple-A, low gas prices are largely due to oversupply in the oil market and the strong U.S. dollar -- that makes oil more expensive for other countries, but less expensive for the U.S.

Also, Greece’s potential exit from the Eurozone could place more pressure on the value of the Euro, making the U.S. dollar even stronger and, in turn, could keep prices at the pump low.
