Delaware gas prices fall again over 4th of July holiday

Delaware Public Media

First State motorists enjoyed another good week at the gas pump.

Drivers filling up enjoyed the lowest prices on the 4th of July holiday weekend in five years.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in First State dropped 3 cents from $2.69 to $2.66 in the past week.   The price has now fallen 9 cents in two weeks.

It also remains nearly a dollar less than what Delawareans were paying a year ago when the average stood at $3.62.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.56 or slightly less up and down the state.

Delaware drivers are paying 10 cents below the national average, which dipped one cent to $2.76 since last week.

AAA officials note that the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) report indicates Americans are driving more this year due to lower gas prices and a stronger economy. Gasoline demand for the first six months of the year is up about three percent compared to the same period in 2014, according to initial estimates by the EIA.
