Delaware Art Museum wins grant to boost online collection

Spring Rain, 1912- John Sloan

The Delaware Art Museum will soon increase its collection of art on the web.

The Wilmington art institution has received a $150,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to continue its Collections Accessibility project.

Museum officials say the grant will enable the museum to place over 5,000 works online, including its holdings of illustrator Howard Pyle, John Sloan, and the entire painting collection.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services gave grants to 217 museum projects across the country, totaling over 25 million dollars.

The Delaware Art Museum’s holdings include the largest collection of British Pre-Raphaelite art outside of the United Kingdom, American art and illustration from the 1800s to the present, and a growing contemporary art collection.

As of September 2015, the online collections portal has been viewed by over 9,000 unique visitors.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
