First State gas price continue their dramatic retreat

Gas prices in Delaware continue to take a dive.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware dipped 11 cents from $3.07 a week ago to $2.96. Prices at the pump in the First State have declined over 30 cents in the last month.

First State drivers are paying 15 cents below than the national average, which fell 10 cents to $3.11 this week. And they’re paying 36 cents less than a year ago, when the average price per gallon for regular in Delaware was $3.32.

The current prices in the First State represent a new low for 2014 and Delaware joins Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia regionally in reaching 2014 gas price lows this week.

AAA officials expect price to continue to drop, saying they could fall an additional 10-20 cents before the end of the year barring unforeseen circumstances.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are over a dozen stations across the state selling a gallon of regular for $2.87 or slightly less – mainly in New Castle County.
