Pres. Obama to visit closed I-495 bridge Thursday

President Barack Obama will visit the I-495 bridge Thursday according to the News Journal.

The report says Obama’s advance team was at the Port of Wilmington Friday to scout out security arrangements.

The president has been pushing a proposed $302 billion, four-year infrastructure spending plan since earlier this spring, warning of the federal highway transportation fund’s looming insolvency.

Administration officials haven’t yet confirmed the visit.

The I-495 bridge has been closed since early June after a 50,000 ton pile of dirt under the bridge shifted loose soil underneath the support columns, eventually cracking them.

Obama has set foot in Delaware a handful of times as president, including a fundraiser for Sen. Chris Coons in 2010 and on the way to his first inauguration with Vice President Joe Biden in 2009.
