Holiday sees rise in gas prices nationwide

Delawareans are taking a slight hit to the wallet when fueling up this week.

AAA Mid Atlantic reports a three-cent jump in the price of regular from a week ago to $3.54 cents. That’s still well below the $3.76 a gallon that drivers shelled out at this same time last year.

This trend extends nationwide. The average U.S. price jumped five cents over last week to $3.59 a gallon.

Crude oil prices swelled to more than $110 a barrel, a figure not seen since the Arab Spring of 2011.

AAA officials estimate that demand for gas will tick up slightly over this holiday weekend, but will eventually drop over the coming weeks.
