Dover International Speedway is tweaking its schedule for the track’s two NASCAR weekends in 2013.
Sprint Cup series qualifying will return to Friday on the Monster Mile for both the spring and fall race weekends.
The last few years qualifying for Sunday’s Sprint Cup races in Dover were held on Saturday before the Nationwide Series race.
Track officials say the move creates more value for those who hold tickets to Friday’s events at the track
“The move back to Friday provides a great kickoff to our event weekend,” said Denis McGlynn, Dover Motorsports president and CEO in a statement. “Our fans have told us that they enjoy seeing qualifying on Friday, so we are glad to accommodate them.
McGlynn added the move should also prove beneficial to Sprint Cup drivers.
Teams will now have the chance to practice twice on Saturday, a day after qualifying. These sessions will afford teams the opportunity to perfect their setups for Sunday’s race, post qualifying, and will create a more exciting, competitive event for the fans,” said McGlynn.
Dover’s first NASCAR weekend this year is May 31 to June 3. Its fall race weekend is September 27 to 29.
