A Delaware artist who blends the natural world, the human body, and intricate patterns is featured this summer in the Delaware Div. of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery.
Jennifer Hintz Eggers is a UD graduate and Wilmington-based artist who works with painting and collage. Her solo exhibition, “Seeds of Life,” contains work inspired by her journey as a new mother, for example the “mammary flowers” that show up in some work.
“They're abstracted mammary glands that, when I was in medical settings and seeing these anatomical illustrations hung on the wall - like you do in a doctor's office - I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, they look like flowers,’” she says.
One consistent theme in Eggers’ work is a simple shape - the circle.
“You can get surprisingly intricate with just a straightedge and a compass," she says. "Even though it's very simple, you can also get very specific with what you're saying with that shape.”
Eggers says she hopes her work gives viewers a sense of calm and perspective in hectic times.
“Sometimes things are really turbulent, really troublesome. And yet there's trees that are thousands of years old. And nobody really knows the future," she says.
Eggers’ exhibition is on display through July 25 at the Carvel State Office Building’s Mezzanine Gallery in Wilmington.
Delaware Public Media's arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
