UD cancels winter study abroad program, updates other reopening plans

Delaware Public Media

The University of Delaware is offering more information about its reopening plan.

UD announced Wednesday all winter 2021 study abroad programs, domestic and international, are canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students involved with the programs were notified Tuesday.

UD’s Institute for Global Studies (IGS) says worldwide travel is not yet feasible, and cross-border mobility is limited. The pandemic also makes securing safe housing, meals, transportation and classrooms problematic.

Students will receive full refunds for tuition and fees, although processing may take several weeks. Scholarships will be honored for future trips.

IGS says it is working with winter session faculty directors on redesigning programs or creating alternative opportunities.

UD also released more details on its revised fall semester schedule.  It includes hybrid in-person and online courses for classes under 50 students. Those courses will alternate in-person weeks, with some classes scheduled on Saturdays.

The remote work period for employees is also extended indefinitely.
