State Rep. Rebecca Walker won't seek re-election

Two-term state Democratic Rep. Rebecca Walker is foregoing another run for office later this fall.

Earlier this year, Walker took over as Director of Law and Graduate Programs at Widener Law School in Wilmington and, in a statement, says she couldn’t find a balance between multiple jobs commitments.

“Unfortunately, my ‘day job’ – which I also love – had asked me to commit myself full-time to my new role," said Walker. "I thought I could find a balance between the two, but then I would not be doing either job justice,” said Walker.

She also works as an emergency room nurse at Christiana Hospital.

Walker led the House Judiciary Committee for the past two years.

That leaves two important committee leadership seats open as Rep. Darryl Scott steps down later this year as well. He chaired the House Education Committee.

The filing deadline to run closed earlier this week, but the Democratic Party has time to appoint a replacement.

New Castle County Party Chair Betsy Maron will hold a committee meeting soon to choose a nominee to face Republican Kevin Hensley in November.
