Rain, snow and wind Tuesday, near-record lows at night

Delaware Public Media

The first snowfall of the season in Delaware is expected Tuesday.

Forecasters say a cold front will roll into the First State around eight or nine in the morning turning rain into snow and shifting winds to the northwest with gusts up to 30 mph.

After the storm, National Weather Service meteorologist Patrick O’Hara says temperatures will drop down to record or near record lows Tuesday night. This comes after sunny skies and highs in the 60s throughout the state Monday.

“It’s a pretty abrupt change,” said O’Hara. “If it changes to a little bit of snow, there could be slippery spots. So just be ready for winter type conditions”

The record low temperature for Wilmington for November 13th is 18 degrees and the record for Georgetown is 22. The forecasted low in both cities Tuesday night is 21 degrees.

The cold spell is expected to last throughout most of the workweek, as temperatures are not forecasted to return to the 50s in Delaware until Friday.

There is no accumulation expected from snowfall tomorrow.
