New Castle County libraries seeking work for 2019 PAGES

Dec 10, 2018

New Castle County libraries are asking children to submit their own masterpiece for the 2019 children’s literary and art magazine PAGES.

New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer says young artists and writers between the ages of 4 and 12 can submit to PAGES.

“We are encouraging kids at Newark Public Library and our Bear Public Library to come in with their parents and submit their own poems, jokes, comics, essays, short stories or even hand-drawn artwork for our PAGES literary magazine," said Meyer. "It’s the 4th year we’re doing it. And it’s a tremendous opportunity for people at a young age to become published authors and published artists."

Librarians at the Newark Free Library initially came up with the idea for PAGES three years ago.

“A lot of the ideas we have, a lot of the best ideas we have, come from our staff. And librarians came up with the idea three years ago at the Newark Free Library, that children can be authors too and children can be published too," said Meyer. "It’s really, really important now with all the distractions from literacy that we think really creatively.”

Work must be submitted by Sunday, December 16 at the children’s desk at both libraries, along with a completed parental release form available at the libraries.

And Meyer notes launch parties are planned for the Newark Free Library on Saturday, February 23rd and for the Bear Library on Sunday, March 3rd.

Artists and writers selected to appear will receive a free copy of PAGES to keep.
