The Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington has a new offering in its Kids’ Corner.

The Kid’s Corner offers rotating installations in its space on the Museum’s lower level.

“It’s a space that has been there for families for quite some time now. And the installation is done by - what we call - a Family-in-Residence, which is a family of artists who conceptualize, design and then create the interactive space that is in there,” said Saralyn Rosenfield - the director of learning and engagement at the Delaware Art Museum.

Rosenfield went on to say, “The Family-in-Residence - their names are the Smiths. And they created - the title of their installation is “Who Hears Twell Van Dunder,” which there is a pun intended there - “Who here is 12 and under?”

Rosenfield says the new installation transformed Kids’ Corner into a colorful enchanted forest where visitors wander on paths winding around giant trees which contain tiny displays of magical places and original music by the Smiths.

She adds that the installation also includes a sequined fish pond where kids can sit on lily pads and “fish” with magnetic poles. A gigantic sheepdog named “Twell Van Dunder” - the main character of the space - greets children along the path.

She notes the walls of the space are covered with sunset murals and trees painted by the Smith children, Lilly, Ida, and Lukas.

Rosenfield says “Who Hears Twell Van Dunder” is a two-year installation running through the summer of 2021. It is open to the public during regular visitor hours.
