Colonial School District board member arrested on child sexual abuse charges

A Colonial School Board member faces charges of child sexual abuse.

New Castle County arrested 41-year-old Ronnie Williams Friday and charged him with multiple felony counts of sexual abuse involving 3 juveniles.

There is no indication yet if the victims are Colonial School District students.

The district released a statement saying it is aware of the arrest,  It notes Williams is presumed innocent until proved guilty and will remain on the board while the judcial process plays out.  Williams was elected to the Colonial board in May 2018.

"This information is very unsettling and we are all saddened for the alleged victims,” said Colonial School District Superintendent Dusty Blakey in the district statement.

The district plans to have counselors on hand Monday to talk to any students who wish to discuss this case.

New Castle County Police says based on its investigation there may be additional victims who have not come forward. They ask anyone with any information to contact Detective Joshuah Smith at (302) 395-8126 or via email at Joshuah.Smith@newcastlede.gov.

“As always, we will do all that we legally can to protect the safety of our students, and to ensure that they receive the best education possible,” said Colonial Board of Education President, Ted Laws in the district's statement.

Williams was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held at Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $385,000 cash bail and $80,000 secured bond, according to New Castle County Police.
