Artists invited to be part of a statewide street art trail

The Delaware Tourism Office (DTO) is looking for artists to submit designs to be part of a statewide interactive street art trail.

The Delaware Tourism Office (DTO) is conducting a nationwide art contest, in an effort to find an artist to create a piece for the Cape May Lewes Ferry terminal entrance in Lewes.

Delaware Tourism Office director Liz Keller says it’s the first in a series of contests connected to Delaware Discoveries Trail launched last year, “It’s an interactive street art trail that will be placed at locations throughout the state. And we are looking for artists to help us create these pieces of art.”

Keller says the initial piece at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry will be painted on an exterior wall of the terminal in a 10' X 10' space.

The deadline to submit a concept is Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Keller says the Tourism Office will then select a proposal by July 3, 2020 and the chosen artist will need to place the finished piece by August 28, 2020.

Keller says designs should reflect the location, be simple yet engaging, be whimsical and spark joy, include an immersive detail or feature that allows viewers to interact or participate and lead viewers to learn more about the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

The Delaware Discoveries Trail will launch tthis fall with seven sites.
