Gov. Markell to deliver final State of the State

Delaware Public Media

Gov. Jack Markell will deliver his final State of the State address before Delaware legislators and their guests Thursday.

He's expected to talk about progress made on his priorities during his two terms, all on the theme of "Expect More." Since Markell will leave office at the end of the year, he's less likely to introduce new initiatives.

The governor's office has said in recent days that the speech will cover criminal justice and education reform, access to healthcare and early childhood ed, and economic growth, especially job creation.

Markell came into 2016 with the third-highest approval rating of any Democratic governor in the country. That's despite some second-term setbacks, including thinning corporate jobs in Wilmington and legislative battles over Priority Schools and standardized testing.

Watch the State of the State live at  2 p.m. Thursday here on Delaware Public Media, or tune in to WDDE 91.1 in Dover and WMPH 91.7 to hear the speech, as well as analysis and reaction from lawmakers.
