Sussex County’s 35th annual Caroling on The Circle drew over 500 people to downtown Georgetown Monday night to celebrate the holidays. ";

Sussex County carolers and other groups donated thousands of food items for local families in need this week.

Over 500 carolers gathered in downtown Georgetown Monday night for the 35th annual Caroling on The Circle.  The event kicks off the holiday season with song and serves as the focal point of food drive that started last month.

Sussex County Communications Director Chip Guy says so far Caroling on The Circle’s “Pack the POD” campaign has brought in more than 24,000 items.

All food collected goes directly to local food pantries.

Guy notes “Pack the POD” was started in 1984 and to date has collected 725,000 canned goods through Caroling on The Circle.

Donations are welcome through the end of this month. Canned goods and non-perishable items can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the County Administrative Offices building on The Circle or the West Complex offices on Route 113.
