This year’s Food Lion Feeds Hunger Relief Day at the Delaware State Fair was a success.
More than 29,000 pounds of food was collected as part of the partnership between the Fair, Food Lion and the Food Bank of Delaware.
Food Bank communications director Kim Turner says this year’s effort brought in 3,500 more canned goods than a year ago.
And on top of that the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, presented the Food Bank of Delaware with a $10,000 donation.
Turner says that donation will go toward its Backpack Program, and allow the Food Bank to provide 59 children with a bag full of food each weekend for the entire upcoming school year .
