DNREC’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Section, Recycling Program, will unveil its newest campaign to “clean the stream” – Single Stream Recycling – at Coast Day this weekend.
Coast Day 2017 is this Sunday at the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean and Environment in Lewes.
During the event, a new campaign called “clean the stream” will be unveiled by DNREC’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Section, Recycling Program.
DNREC’s Recycling Program, Education and Outreach Coordinator Jackie Howard says many items wind up in single stream recycling when they shouldn’t, "What we're doing is, we're focusing on cleaning the streams in terms of "single stream" recycling. There are wonderful people in Delaware, over 90% of Delawareans recycle; we want to help them recycle right."
Howard notes that one of the most persistent contaminants collected during single stream recycling are grocery bags - which need to be recycled separately.
Howard says you can stop by DNREC’s Coast Day booth and play its ‘Bin It to Win It’ game. It’s a race against the clock to sort your waste into the correct bins with the chance to win a prize.
