Delaware’s unemployment rate took another plunge in March, dropping two-tenths of a point to rest at 4.4 percent.
State officials say the First State’s economy is approaching full employment, though the jobless rate is still above the 3.8 percent Delaware averaged from 1997 to 2007.
They say indicators like how long people spend on the unemployment rolls and those working part-time, but seeking full-time work are dropping as well.
The national unemployment rate inched up a tenth of a percent last month to a flat five percent.
Retail trade, as well as transportation and utility work saw healthy gains in March, with steady growth in hospitality, education and healthcare.
Over the past year, nonfarm jobs in Delaware have grown by nearly 12,000 – faster than the national average.
Non-seasonally adjusted figures across the state show drops across the board in Wilmington, Dover and Sussex County.
