Heroin, cash, ammo seized in Dover drug bust

Courtesty of Dover Police

Dover Police seized nearly 6,400 bags of heroin in the latest large scale heroin-related drug bust made by law enforcement statewide recently.

The department’s Drugs, Vice and Organized Crime unit and other agencies executed a search warrant at the First State Inn off of U.S. 13 in North Dover Tuesday and took 28-year-old Darren Swiggett into custody.

Police say they found the stash of heroin that weighed about 96 grams, more than $13,000 in cash, marijuana and ammunition in the room.

Last month, the U.S. Attorney’s office say they seized the largest amount of heroin in state history. Local and federal officials teamed up to net nearly 49,000 bags of heroin, guns and $48,000 in cash with five suspects in custody.

Swiggett was taken to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna after failing to post a $211,000 cash bond.

He faces five charges, including heroin possession with intent to deliver, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited and drug paraphernalia.
