Del. Supreme Court rejects appeal from pedophile pediatrician

Delaware’s Supreme Court has turned down an appeal from the former Lewes pediatrician convicted of sexual abusing nearly one hundred of his patients.

The state’s highest court rejected Earl Bradley’s claims that public defenders handling his case provided “ineffective” counsel and that was denied the right of counsel of his choosing when the state froze his assets.

The decision Thursday from three-judge panel that heard the appeal affirms the ruling delivered by a Superior Court judge.

In his appeal, Bradley appeal argued that his lawyers should have contested use of tapes he made of himself molesting young patients at his trial.  Bradley appealed to the Delaware Supreme Court claiming the tapes were illegally seized from buildings outside the scope of a search warrant.   The Supreme Court rejected that appeal in 2012.   Bradley’s appeal also argued his lawyers failed to challenge the high court’s misapprehension of a key fact in that decision.

Bradley was convicted in June 2011 of rape, second-degree assault and sexual exploitation of children. He is currently serving 14 consecutive life terms plus 164 years.
