Man shot by Dover Police offers guilty plea

Delaware Public Media

A man shot by a Dover Police officer last summer has pleaded guilty to a felony weapons charge.

In August, 21-year-old Terrence Fletcher was suspected of carrying a loaded gun in Dover. During a foot chase, Fletcher, who is black, was shot in the thigh by a Dover police officer. Following the incident, he admitted to carrying a .38-caliber five-shot revolver.

He faced two charges of carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. The News-Journal reported that the second was dropped after he agreed to plead guilty for the first charge on Dec. 16.

Fletcher was sentenced to five months in prison, followed by a year on probation. Because he was given credit for the time he’s served since August, he will be released soon from the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust is continuing to investigate the police shooting.
