Hagley Museum readies for annual craft fair this fall

Hagley Museum and Library

Hagley Museum in Wilmington will feature more than 50 regional artists in its 38th annual craft fair.

Museum Tour Manager Bonnie Wirth says most of the pieces featured in the event take cues from the natural world.

She says you'll also see the work of an artist that uses cement castings of Elephant Ear and Rhubarb leaves.

“She creates these leaf castings by using really large leaves like elephant ear leaves and rhubarb leaves. So you can use them as bird feeders or bird baths,” said Wirth.

Wirth adds another artist creates felted wool pieces featuring flowers.

“But they actually use dye extracted from plants to color the wool fiber. So that’s really interesting,” said Wirth.

The exhibit features hand-crafted jewelry, textiles, glass and pottery pieces, as well.

Wirth says this year’s festival brings back a fan favorite, a food market that features snacks from 14 local providers.

The Hagley Craft Fair is October 15 and 16 in Wilmington.
