Delaware Art Museum celebrates its Latino American art exhibit

The Delaware Art Museum’s new exhibit, Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art opened earlier this spring. And to celebrate the rich culture of Latin American art in the United States the museum is throwing a party.

Noche De Carnaval is a celebration of all things Latin American. Art, food and even music.

Puerto Rican rapper Intikana and several other artists will be featured musicians during the outdoor Carnaval.

Delaware Art Museum Public Relations and Marketing manager Jessica Jenkins says people can walk around to take in the art, listen to live music, and even grab a bite from one of the food trucks.

She adds the exhibit features over 70 Latin American artists.

"We're really showcasing and responding to things that are going on in the world since the 1950s, said Jenkins. "So, they're talking about community, identity, immigration, culture, family and exploring very controversial ideas."

The exhibit is on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The Carnival is Friday from 6 to 10 pm at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
