Wilmington's Ladybug Music Festival features female-centric line-up

While women dominate the pop charts, music festivals remain the domain of male acts.

Delaware’s Ladybug Music Festival aims to make an exception by shining a light on female artists.

The festival will feature a mix of local and national artists performing their original music.

The event, now in its fourth year, will present 35 women artists or female fronted bands playing at 9 indoor and outdoor venues in Wilmington on Thursday.

Gayle Dillman is one of the co-founders of the event and says Ladybug has exceeded her expectations.

“This is an event that we started as kind of a joke when Firefly came to town in 2012," she says. "Who knew that four years later we would be looking at thousands of people coming to our event.”

The Ladybug Music Festival kicks off at 5:00 Thursday in downtown Wilmington.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
