Four more people have died in the First State due to overdoses from fentanyl-laced heroin.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office announced the deaths Monday, bringing the total number of fentanyl-related overdoses in Delaware so far this year to 11.
Toxicology reports confirmed the deaths took place between April and June of this year. Three of the overdoses were in New Castle County with one in Sussex.
Fentanyl is a synthetic painkiller that’s 50 to 100 times more powerful than heroin. The drug is commonly mixed with heroin to produce a more powerful high.
Dozens of people nationwide have died this year due to fentanyl-laced heroin.
Delaware last saw an outbreak of fentanyl-related overdoses in 2006, when seven people were confirmed to have died.
