Plane makes emergency landing at Cape Henlopen State Park

A small engine plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Cape Henlopen State Park near Lewes Wednesday night.

State officials say the pilot of the two-seat Cessna reported engine trouble before setting down on a section of Herring Point Beach at approximately 7:30 p.m Wednesday.

The area is currently closed to beach goers to protect piping plovers.

The pilot and his passenger were not injured and damage to the plane was described as minimal.

Chief Wayne Kline of Delaware State Parks Enforcement said no charges would be filed.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reviewing the incident and authorized removal of the plane from the beach.
