AG Biden seeks funds for Child Predator Unit, prosecutor salaries from lawmakers

Attorney General Beau Biden (D-Delaware) is asking state legislators to fund two proposals his office maintains are critical priorities for the First State.

Biden is seeking funds to create two new positions for Delaware’s Child Predator Unit and to bump up salaries for attorneys within the Department of Justice.

Biden met with the budget writing committee on Monday to make a pitch for more money for the Child Predator Unit, citing a significant increase in its caseload. The Attorney General is seeking funds totaling just over $172,000 for a new investigator and a second prosecutor. Since helping launch the unit in 2007, Biden’s office reports the conviction of 184 child predators in Delaware.

In 2013, the unit made 51 arrests.

The First State’s Attorney General also urged the legislature to sign off on his approximate $128,000 request to raise the salaries of 110 deputys attorney general whose pay has been frozen for several years.

Biden contends that talented attorneys should be rewarded for their public service.
